The project of Team 04 is the Chop Stop, an innovative application of a safety system for a miter saw. Utilizing a mechanical braking system, the Chop Stop is designed to stop instantaneously on contact with skin. The Chop Stop incorporates electrical sensing capability to constantly monitor a miter saw blade to maintain the safety of the user. It will do so by employing resistance and capacitance to differentiate between human flesh and wood fiber.  During fall of 2016 Team 04 concluded that the design and manufacture of the Chop Stop was feasible using engineering methods as outlined in the Teams PPFS (see PPFS documents) During the Spring Semester 2017 Team 04 built and tested a prototype design. This design was completely successful proving the feasibility of the design (see Final Report documents)
