About the Team:
Team 17 consists of four senior mechanical engineers. Meet them below:
Paul Bootsma is a Mechanical Engineering student with Dual Citizenship from Kitchener, Ontario. He has a wide range of engineering experience from working on a factory floor to performing vibrations research. Last summer he worked with Dr. Richard De Jong analyzing the effects of wind noise on the windows of motor vehicles. In his free time he enjoys playing softball, and volunteering at his church’s kid’s club. His favourite activity is building pine wood derby cars and is a 5 time Best Looking Prize winner.
Kirk Brink is a Mechanical Engineering student from Holland, Michigan. Last summer, he interned at Unist Inc. where he designed components for metal cutting and forming lubrication systems. In the summer of 2016, he interned at Blackmer Pump, where he worked in the research and development lab testing sliding vane pumps and gas compressors. His hobbies include riding quads and snowmobiles, water and snow skiing, and building and fixing Jeep Wranglers.
Chris Greaves is a Mechanical Engineering student from Rancho Cucamonga, California. When he graduates this spring he will earn his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army National Guard. While at Calvin he spent a summer doing research with the engineering department and earned a sustainability designation.
Erik Karlson is a Mechanical Engineering student from Gurnee, Illinois. Besides majoring in Engineering, Erik is also pursuing minors in mathematics and business. He spent the summer of 2017 working at Robert Bosch Fuel Systems LLC as an intern with development engineering for large engine fuel pumps.
