One-Sixth Completed

It seems like such a long time since we arrived at Tegel Airport last Saturday. Our days have been packed full of activities while exploring the city, and then retiring at St. Michaels Heim to do homework at night.

I did not expect our accommodations to be as beautiful as they are.  The Biergarten especially is a lovely place to sit and do homework together! I didn’t expect there to be so much rain. It’s been forcasted every day for about a week, and has finally accumulated to downpours two days in a row.  The streets were flooded, and Holly, Scott, and I took an unexpected and unwanted stroll through the rain yesterday.

I do miss being able to take a shower without wearing flip-flops. I miss the snuggles from my dogs. I miss being able to understand everything people say to me, and not having to play charades to ask or answer a question. And I also miss private transportation—I’m still getting used to busses and trains.

Food wise, I wish it was a cultural norm in the states to eat ketchup and mayonnaise with your French fries: they are amazing. I love the variety of food that I’m able to try, even with my many food intolerances. I love the sense of community that we have amongst ourselves.

I’m learning to accept the furtive glances we get from locals as we parade down the street or get on busses with 30+ people in tow.

So far, it’s been great.
