Stepping Into Another World

Traveling different places around the globe is one of the most exciting and valuable, yet terrifying, experiences out there; experiencing different culture in other places can often be an eye-opening experience that requires you to step out of your comfort zone and try out different thing which can be exciting and terrifying.

One of the main reasons I decided to be part of the program was because it was another great opportunity for me to experience a culture that I have never encountered, not in a position of a tourist traveling for a week in Berlin, but as a student studying in Berlin for 6 weeks.

As a Korean missionary kid who lived in Africa and now studies in America, I’ve never really had a chance to encounter with the European culture. So, I hope to step out and experience the European culture as one of the outcomes of the program. I also look forward to bonding with other classmates that are going on this trip as we take classes together.

One of the strength that I have that I can contribute to the team is the cultural awareness. As mentioned before, living in Africa for most of my life as a Korean has shaped me to be aware of the cultural differences, how those differences affect people’s lives, and how I should react as a “foreigner” or a “third-cultured person”.

Some of the prayer request would be that everyone in the group will have safe travels on the road since we’ll be traveling a lot and that it’ll be a memorable and enjoyable experience. Another one is that I would be able to represent Christ throughout this trip and even have the courage to share if needed.
