Reflections

Last Friday, our group visited Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.  It was an eye-opening experience.  During history classes, I have been taught about the genocide that happened in World War 2, but it never effected me the way it did on Friday.

We walked through a large gate into a massive courtyard, mostly empty but with a couple of buildings rebuilt for the museum.  Covering the ground were gravel plots marking old buildings, long since gone.  The courtyard was harsh, forbidding, and left me speechless.  It was then that the full evil of the Holocaust struck home for me.  That massive, terrible camp was one of a multitude.

There were pictures of the guards doing normal, everyday activities which struck me, for it symbolized that those men were normal people like me, just twisted.  I was reminded how easy it is to fall into sin and be blind to its evil.
