When I first heard about this summer program in Germany, I knew I should definitely keep it in mind and consider it. The main reason that really compelled me to actually participate on this trip was the engineering international distinction. Because of my international upbringing, Continue reading “First Thoughts”

I have chosen to partake in the SPIG as I see it as a great opportunity to invest in my cultural and engineering knowledge. While enjoying traveling in Europe for my first time, I will be learning a great deal about Germany, a country known for its engineers, and continuing my own engineering studies.

I first became interested in the Summer Program when my oldest brother, Paul, went on it five years ago. He had a great time, and so did my middle brother, Sean, when he went on it two years ago. I knew I had to at least check it out. Continue reading “First Thoughts”

There were a lot of reasons why I chose to sign up for this program. I really wanted to study abroad, and I know that Germany is a great place to go as an engineer. It’s also nice to have 1 class already out of the way before the Continue reading “First Thoughts”

This Summer Program in Germany was one of the things that got me excited about Calvin when I was looking at colleges. I wanted to go because it gives me a chance to travel abroad, something that a lot of people tell me they regret not doing, and not sacrifice a whole semester on campus.

My name is Caleb Schmurr, and I am studying engineering at Calvin College. When I heard about the opportunity to study abroad in Germany I knew I wanted to go on the trip. I really wanted to study abroad at one point in my college experience, and this opportunity was perfect. I get the chance to stay in another country for 6 weeks while getting a course out of the way without falling behind. This summer program is an amazing opportunity to study abroad, and I wanted to take it.
While in Germany, I hope to learn a lot from the class we take and master the principles of Statics and Dynamics (and get a good grade). I believe that my excitement to learn is a positive trait that will contribute to the group, and encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity we have to see and experience something new. My prayer for this group is that we can learn a lot, grow as people, and enjoy the trip.

Summer Program in Germany 2018
I first heard about Calvin’s Summer in Germany Program (SPIG) when I applied to the college. Hidden in the application form was a section that asked if I were interested in the program, it was a simple yes or no response. I thought it could be fun, so I selected “yes”. A few months passed, and after some research I came to the conclusion that the SPIG would be a great opportunity to fulfill degree requirements in both a practical and fun way. With the realization that I have never been outside of North America, I excitedly pursued the program. Continue reading “Summer Program in Germany 2018”
