Exhaustion, Food, and Water

The past week has been exiting, hard work, and tiring. After we dropped off our bags at one of the most interesting hotels I have ever seen, we went out and started touring and getting our bearings. I was impressed with the ease of travel getting to and from our hotel to central Berlin. I had a delicious Rostbratwurst for lunch, though I probably would have thought almost anything delicious because of how hungry I was.

After that we went to a store called KaDeWe, which in my exhausted stated, was probably not as interesting as it could have been. They did have almost anything a person could want, for example: exotic foods, clothes, bread. Looking back, I think of it as Berlin’s Harrod’s (which is a huge department store in London). I have liked taking the bus places, it is swift and efficient. My favorite part about Berlin so far has been the food. It is extremely cheap, but delicious. Yesterday, a few from the group went to a Vietnamese restaurant and paid around 5 Euros for a dinner sized meal that would have cost at least 12 USD. Maybe my favorite part about the food is the bread. I love bread to begin with, but the bread here is fantastic. It makes me wonder why we cannot have this good of bread in the US.

I anticipated this trip for a while, but I did not really expect for me to get around this easily in a country that has a small language barrier. The barrier is small because I have a little German experience, but I still have issues speaking in German. So far, I don’t really miss anything from home, except for free ice water. That is one of the best things, is to order a water and pay nothing. I am happy with the food and where we are staying. Perhaps I miss the ease of eating at home because I don’t have to go out for it all the time, but that is about it.

In wishing I had things in Germany back home, I would say the simple breakfast that is served here would certainly be good. As I already said the bread would be good to have in the US. So far, all has been going pretty well.
