SPIG 2018 FTW

Heidelberg

I can’t possibly summarize the whole trip in one blog, there are too many amazing experiences I’ve had. There are a few highlights though.

Taking Engineering 202 during the summer was such a worth-it decision. I loved being able to just focus on the subject. I think that I definitely understand way better than if I had taken it during the school year. Also, because engineering was the only subject, we usually had free time after homework to explore Berlin. Other times, some of us would go down to the soccer fields nearby the youth hostel and play ultimate frisbee or to a nearby lake to swim. I loved how chill it was. Having the free time after definitely kept our stress-levels low and, I feel, kept us excited to learn.

You would think the 3-hour train rides alone to the weekend stops would tire us out, but I think we all were just so blown away at all the beautiful castles and towns we barely realized it. My favorite weekend getaway had to be Heidelberg. The view standing on top of the hills on castle grounds look over into the city and river was gorgeous. Plus, the hotel we stayed at had a pool and a jacuzzi.

The people on this trip and just the overall group vibe are awesome. Everyone is super chill and friendly. Plus, the group chat is always popping at some point. I’m especially glad that my roommates and I are close. At first, I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t be able to click with the girls, but now looking back I couldn’t have wished for anyone else on this trip. I love Emily’s adventurous spirit, Delaney’s sprightly vibes, and Destiny’s edge. All of them are such strong, funny, and smart people.
