Elevator Speech

A condensed version of my six weeks in Germany:

Overall, my trip to Germany was so fun and I’m so glad I chose to do the Summer Program in Germany. It was a great balance of school and fun. I started off with having class four times a week (Monday-Thursday); I had engineering class in the morning for 2-3 hours, ate lunch at the Mensa (the University cafeteria), and then went to German class for another 2-3 hours. Afterwards I would take the bus back to the hostel, work on homework, and in the evening I would play frisbee, study, work on the blogs, go to lake, or just chill. It was nice to take one class four days a week, because I could focus on that one class. It was also great, because I had time to explore Berlin and get to know people on the trip.

The other three days we all went on day trips to many different cities like Heidelberg, Cologne, Bremen, Lübeck, Wittenberg, and other German cities. My favorite city was probably Heidelberg, because I got to go inside a castle that had breathtaking views. It was such an unforgettable experience. However, every city was unique and so so beautiful. I love the colorful buildings and architecture in Germany. The pink buildings were my favorite! Also, lots of buildings had gorgeous vines and flowers hanging. What I loved seeing most were dogs, but I was sad I didn’t get to pet any 🙁

Germany also had some great food! I tried a döner for the first time (I think it’s similar to a gyro) and that was sehr lecker!  My favorite German food here would have to be spätzle. It tastes very similar to mac and cheese, but it’s just fancier, and of course… sehr lecker! am leckersten!

The one thing that surprised me in Germany was probably how green the city is. There are so many bikers here and walking on the bike path is like a death wish… I’ve seen many people here get seriously yelled at for being on the bike path. I also didn’t expect to miss certain things in the US like water and AC. Water expensive in Germany? yup. Find AC often? nope.

Lastly, I’m super thankful to have gotten to experience so much of Germany and all the people on this trip, especially the three other girls (they kept me sane).

Overall, I will really miss Germany and it’ll take me a while to stop saying things like danke, bitte, and sehr lecker, but that’s ok…

Genau.
