First Thoughts

I am participating in this summer program because I want to see the world and gain a new perspective on engineering. I knew I wanted to go on this trip when students from previous years showed us pictures of their trip. I saw the old architecture and amazing views and knew I wanted to see it in person. I also thought studying at the University of Berlin would be a great experience. I knew that studying engineering in a different country would give me a new outlook on how engineering is done differently around the world.

I hope that when I finish this class I will leave with many new friendships. I know some people on the trip but would like to expand that circle to include new friends that will last through my time at Calvin. I also hope that I leave with a new perspective of Germany. Since I’ve never been to Europe I’m not exactly sure what to expect, so I hope that I’m able to better understand the German culture by the end of my trip.

I think that my drive to do well will contribute to the betterment of the group. I will get all of my work done while making sure that the people around me also get their work done. I will make sure to encourage all of those who need it.

My prayer for this summer program is that we are able to travel safely. I also hope that people take advantage of this trip, that we don’t get too caught up in the classes but are able to embrace the once in a lifetime opportunity that we are experiencing.
